Roger Chamberland

Inspector/Consultant enjoyed a 30 year career with the City of Winnipeg Fire Department. The first 12 of these years were spent as a firefighter and the remaining 18 were served in the Fire Prevention Division. The last 10 years, Roger served as the Director of Fire Prevention (Fire Marshall) whose responsibilities included administering and enforcing the Manitoba Building and Fire Codes, building inspections, post fire investigations and delivery of public fire safety education.

As Director, Roger was instrumental in developing and administering comprehensive fire safety initiatives and bylaws which resulted in significant fire death and injury reductions in the City. During his tenure, the Department was also internationally recognized for successfully delivering unique fire safety education programming to its citizens. These programs included S.A.F.E. Baby Program (Smoke Alarms for Every Baby), Arson Awareness and Youth Fire Setters, to name a few.

Roger proudly continues to be involved in housing, building and fire code development at the national level and was a 10 year member of the Standing Committee on Fire Safety and Occupancy, Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes, National Research Council of Canada.

After retiring from the city Roger decided to use his knowledge in fire safety and home construction and turn to residential and commercial inspections. He has since inspected thousands of Manitoba homes and buildings, is a national certificate holder with CAHPI (Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors) and has trained and mentored several other inspectors.
